CLEARWATER'S ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

Philosophy

Courses of Study

At Clearwater Middle School, we believe our students have distinct intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual characteristics and needs.  We are committed to helping early adolescent learners meet and deal effectively with the challenges confronting them by assisting them to make a smooth, well-organized and secure transition between the primary and secondary school levels.
The programs available to Clearwater Middle School students are, therefore, based upon well-researched international standards and sound instructional practices.

At each of the three levels of middle school, students engage in a curriculum that is challenging, developmentally appropriate and relevant.  We recognize that the middle school curriculum is pivotal to the success of the senior school program and it builds upon the relevant primary school program.  While we attempt to preserve the integrity and rigor of our programs, our teachers personalize the written curriculum, and make accommodations and modifications to meet the unique needs of their students.

Assessment and instruction are fundamentally interconnected.  Our students are assessed on an ongoing basis and in a variety of ways.  They are also encouraged to develop research skills and to take advantage of information available to them. Library information, career education, and information technology are infused in all subjects.

The subjects indicated to the right are offered in each year of school at the middle level.  Students study no more than ten subjects per academic year.  The descriptions do not reflect the full scope of the curriculum, but give a general overview of the subjects taught.  As evaluation and improvement of the middle school programs is an ongoing process, we are committed to continually reviewing the curriculum and schedules to better meet the needs of our students.

More information about the curriculum is available at the school or may be obtained from the Ministry of Education by contacting the Senior Education Officer, Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation.
